Partial programme: Early Years Foundation Stage
This programme is a base for children’s education and development in all British International Schools. This programme covers education for children from three to five years old (in UK five year old children go to Year 1). This stage is very important because it is a platform to further learning, Key Stage 1, and is an integral part of this system.
Early Years programme, taught in English, allows the children to form key personal, emotional and social skills.
Programme Goals
The main goal of the Early Years programme is to assist with the harmonious development of a child’s personality: to ensure personal, social and emotional wellness; to form self-respect, independence and self-belief; to develop a sense of group and key social skills, as well as self-study and self-development skills. The latter is the most important part of the modern education at every level.
Preschool (Foundation Stage) level prepares the children for Primary School in English. This education helps the children to get ready for further Primary Education in English.
Our curriculum is aimed at supporting, fostering, promoting and developing children’s:
Personal, Social and Emotional Well Being
- To provide opportunities that enable them to learn how to co-operate and work together
- To be able to concentrate on their own play or on group tasks
- To gain an enthusiasm for knowledge and learning and a confidence in their ability to be successful learners
- To become a valued member of their group and school community so that a strong sense of self-image andself-esteem are promoted.
Communication, Language and Literacy
- To provide opportunities for all children to talk and communicate in a widening range of situations responding to adults and each other
- To provide opportunities for children to explore, enjoy and learn through a broad range of contexts and books.
Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
- To help children develop their understanding of numbers, measurements, patterns, shapes and spaces through various songs, poems, games and group activities.
- To allow them to practice, enjoy and talk about themselves.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- To allow children to explore the world around them.
- To find out about their environment, to learn about people and places that are significant to them.
- To investigate, experiment, predict, plan and question.
- To share their discoveries with others
English as a Second Language
- Strong skills in the first language act as a bridge both for language development and for development of a second language.
- Speaking and listening to English all day is exhausting, so when children use their first language with each other this is not discouraged.
- The teachers aim to create an environment where each child feels confident and comfortable taking risks with language and interacting with others.
- Children are exposed to all aspects of the English language through visual, auditory and kinesthetic activities including songs, games, stories, and individual play group and class time.
Creative Development
To allow children to explore and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings through creativity in art, music, dance, imaginative play and design and technology.
Physical Development
To help children to develop skills of co-ordination and control practicing gross and fine motor skills to increase their understanding of how their bodies work and what they need to be healthy and safe.
